We will still have five divisions
with 12 trophies each in the Scholastic Divisions and 12 cash prizes in
the Open Division. They will be K-2 U400, K-5 U600; K-8 U800; & K-12
U1000. The idea is to keep the players in each section as evenly matched
as possible, so everyone has a better chance to win. The Cash Open
Division is for Players with USCF Ratings above 1000. No matter what
Section a Player plays in his Score Will Count Towards Team Score
EASIER TO WIN TROPHIES
If you are in 5th grade or below,
and you are unrated or below 600, you play in the K-5 U600. Anybody that
has played in a tournament and had any success at all will have moved
up. No middle schoolers or high schoolers, even those in their first
event, will be competing against you: your section is wide open.
Meanwhile, middle schoolers under 800 and the K-5 players rated 600-800
are close enough in skill (and players rated less than 800 are
inconsistent enough) that literally anyone can win the K-8 U800 division
as well.
Then, the High School Players and
the rest of the 800-1000 group fight it out in the K-12 U1000 without
those elite players (those folks on the national top 100 lists) rated at
1000 and above taking the big trophies. Once again, since the group is
so close in skill, ANYONE CAN WIN.
We still have 12 across-the-board
team trophies. The package deal is still $50.00 , for a St. Petersburg
Chess Club Member , and you get four events plus you get either a free
chess set with bag ($20 value) , Backpack , T-Shirt , or Hat . Call
Andrew Scherman at 727-822-1171 or president@stpetersburgchessclub.com.
We haven’t abandoned those over
1000. We now offer you two things not readily available for you in
scholastic chess: RATING POINTS and MONEY. This season at the Sunshine
Center, 330 Fifth St. N. in St. Petersburg (exit 23; right at light; 50
yards up on right) there will be a $500.00 5rd G/30 open to all rated
1000 and above. You even compete alongside your team for team
trophies.
Best of Luck to all Players in
the upcoming Year
